Arm Lift

Arm Lift

Also known as brachioplasty, an arm lift can lift and tighten up loose skin in the upper arms, resulting in a firmer, more youthful contour.  This is the procedure for those seeking to rid themselves of their “bat wings” and upper arm jiggle that comes with weight loss, age, and genetics.

General Procedure

You will then be given anesthesia (you will be completely asleep) or a general anesthetic as decided upon between you and Dr. Ekstrom prior to the procedure, and she will begin the arm lift procedure.
Incisions are made on the inner and under surface of the arm. When necessary, some fat is suctioned at the same time. Once the excess skin and fat is removed, the remaining skin is stretched and sutured into place.

A bilateral arm lift usually takes about two and a half hours. After the procedure you will feel groggy, and after an hour or two in recovery, you will be allowed to be driven home.

Recovery Process

Occasionally a drain is used to lead excess fluids from the site of incision, allowing the skin better to adhere to the tissue beneath. Your arms will be placed in a special compression garment to help the newly sculpted skin adhere to the tissue underneath, and the hands and arms will need to be elevated to prevent swelling.

The length of the recovery will depend on how extensive of an operation the patient undergoes. Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery which can be treated effectively with oral medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk for potential problems by carefully following the directions given after surgery.
