Ekstrom, provides body lift surgery for individuals in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding communities.
What is a Body Lift?
A body lift is a surgical procedure that may be performed on adult men and women following extreme weight loss that results in excessive amounts of sagging skin around the torso area. The body lift is often combined with other procedures that may include liposuction, arm lift, thigh lift and/or breast enhancement in order to achieve a total body transformation.
Benefits of a Body Lift
After taking the important step of losing massive amounts of weight, the hanging folds of skin that remain present an aesthetic concern that may also cause physical discomfort. In some patients, the skin may be stretched after so many years of obesity to the point where it simply does not have the elasticity to tighten itself around a slimmer body. A body lift may be required in order to achieve a total transformation. A body lift provides the following benefits:
- Flattens and tightens the belly and waistline
- Lifts and reshapes the buttocks
- Tightens the skin in the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks
- Eliminates folds, creases, sagging skin, scars, and cellulite
- Prevents and eliminates infections and irritation caused by hanging folds of skin around the torso
- Creates more taut and defined body contour
- Contributes to improved self-esteem and body image
Who Is An Ideal Candidate For a Body Lift?
A body lift is most suited for adult individuals who, after massive weight loss, seek to tighten and rejuvenate the lower abdomen, groin, waist, thighs, and buttocks. This procedure is ideal for patients who were once obese and have achieved ideal weight, but who still have loose hanging folds of skin to eliminate after weight loss. Body lift patients must be adults in overall good health.
What Does the Body Lift Procedure Involve?
Each procedure is personalized to each patient; however, a body lift requires an incision completely around the body, typically around the bikini line to extract excess skin and clumps of fat from the abdomen, lower back, and hips. Dr. Ekstrom positions the incisions within the bikini area to lessen the visibility of the remaining hairline scar. Through the incision, the band of loose sagging skin around the midsection is lifted, with excess skin trimmed away and the remaining skin pulled tight. Dr. Ekstrom may also use liposuction to extract fatty tissue that has accumulated in problem areas. A body lift may also be combined with other procedures such as liposuction or breast enhancement to complete a total body makeover.
Post-Operative Recovery Following a Body Lift
Immediately after the surgery, a dressing will be placed over the incisions, and temporary drain tubes will be placed along the abdomen. You will be instructed to wear a support garment for several weeks to ensure optimal healing, support tender tissue, and optimize the results of your procedure by keeping everything in its place. We recommend a period of rest and recovery for about a week after which you may return to normal, non-strenuous activities. You may gradually resume normal physical activity after about six weeks, and our staff will monitor your recovery process and be available to answer any of your questions or address any concerns you may have during this period.
Body Lift vs. Liposuction
While the body lift is a comprehensive surgical procedure that yields significant, dramatic results, liposuction is a far less invasive, non-surgical treatment that extracts small fatty deposits. It does not, however, tighten muscle, trim away sagging skin, or eliminate scars, stretch marks and cellulite. In contrast, a body lift tightens the skin as well as the underlying muscle, while trimming away excess skin and any scars, stretch marks and cellulite that might be part of that skin. In many cases, liposuction may be used in combination with a body lift to achieve optimal results.
When Can I Begin to Exercise After a Body Lift?
We recommend that you avoid rigorous physical activity for a period of at least six weeks and ease your way back to your normal physical activities gradually. Because the body lift affects many delicate and sensitive areas of the body, it is crucial that you provide all those areas enough rest and time to heal properly.
How Much Does A Body Lift Cost in Worcester?
Because the body lift is such a personalized procedure, often combined with other treatments, prices will vary among patients. Most health insurance carriers won’t cover the costs of a body lift, so to help you manage payments for your procedure, our office proudly provides a variety of financing and payment options for all of our patients.
