What is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary body contouring procedure that uses non-invasive cooling energy to freeze and destroy fat cells. After the cells are destroyed, they are naturally shed from the body over the months following treatment. CoolSculpting® is an FDA-approved fat reduction procedure that can leave you with a slimmer, more contoured figure – and no downtime!
Why Should I Consider CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is non-invasive, making it a great option for patients who wish to avoid surgery. No incisions, no scars, immediate return to function… all make Coolsculpting one of the most popular treatments for a modern lifestyle fit.
Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting®?
The CoolSculpting® procedure is most suited for adults who are in good general health and maintain reasonable expectations about the results. CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss procedure, but instead a body contouring procedure that can help rid patients of resistant fatty deposits. For best results, patients should be within 30 pounds of their ideal weight. The CoolSculpting® procedure may be used to treat almost any area of the body, including:
- Neck/Double Chin
How is CoolSculpting® Performed?
CoolSculpting® is a simple process that does not require any anesthesia. Our medical aestheticians administer CoolSculpting® treatments under the advice and supervision of our physician.
During each session, the CoolSculpting® device emits cooling energy to the treatment area, targeting the desired fat cells while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed. Patients might feel a cold or pinching sensation for the first few minutes of treatment, but these sensations fade quickly and allowing the patient to relax for the remainder of the treatment. After a Coolsculpting session, an acoustic wave treatment called Z-wave is administered to deepen the treatment for more effect. Many patients read a book, watch t.v., or use their cell phone during this process. A single CoolSculpting® session will take between 30 and 60 minutes. Treating two areas at once (dual sculpting) is sometimes possible.
What Can I Expect During Recovery from CoolSculpting®?
Immediately following the procedure, the patient may experience mild redness, modest swelling or bruising in the treated area. These effects are temporary and typically fade within a few days. Other than these minor side effects, patients experience little downtime following their treatment. After treatment the patient will be able to resume work and other normal activities, including exercise. Patients will begin to notice results within a few weeks as the destroyed fat cells are eliminated from the body. Most noticeable results will develop at approximately three months after treatment, with improvements continuing as long as six months after the CoolSculpting® session. Some patients may need multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired results.
Are the Results from CoolSculpting® Permanent?
The CoolSculpting® procedure permanently destroys the treated fat cells, preventing them from accumulating fat in the future. However, just like after liposuction, poor diet and exercise habits can spur weight gain that affects these results. For this reason, we encourage patients to maintain a healthy lifestyles in order to ensure the longevity of their results.

As a cosmetic treatment, most CoolSculpting® treatments do not qualify for insurance coverage; however, to ensure that our patients have access to these procedures, Salisbury Plastic Surgery provides financing (Carecredit, Alpheon Credit) and flexible payment options. The exact cost of your treatment can depend on the area being treated as well as the number of treatment sessions necessary to produce your desired results.
