Fat Transfer and Injections in Worcester, MA

Fat transfer injections transfer your own body fat from problem areas to fill in and correct lines, wrinkles, creases, folds, and other visible signs of aging. Salisbury Plastic Surgery in Shrewsbury, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Deborah K. Ekstrom, provides fat transfer for patients in Worcester and the surrounding areas in Massachusetts.

What Are Fat Transfer and Injections

Fat transfer injection, known medically as microlipoinjection, is a treatment that injects fat from your own body into areas of the face to enhance fullness and volume. The fat may be used to fill in sunken cheeks, restore fullness and volume to the lips, and smooth out lines and wrinkles anywhere on the face.

What are the Benefits of Fat Transfer and Injections?

Fat transfer injections are becoming increasingly popular because the procedure provides the following host of benefits:

  • The procedure is minimally invasive
  • Rejuvenates the face without surgery
  • Is proven safe and effective
  • Uses fat from problem areas in your own body to improve facial contours
  • The treatment is performed as a simple outpatient procedure
  • There is no downtime or recovery period after treatment

How Does Fat Transfer Work?

The fat transfer procedure is performed in three steps, and will require a sedative or local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

  • Step 1: Liposuction is used to extract fat from the harvest site, usually the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. As an added benefit, this extraction of fat will also improve the contours of the harvest site.
  • Step 2: The harvested fatty tissue is liquefied in order to separate and sterilize the fat cells.
  • Step 3: The liquefied fat cells are injected directly into the target area of the face using a very fine-gauge needle to enhance volume and definition in that area.

You will see noticeable results immediately after the injections. Some patients may require a follow-up treatment because in some cases, the body absorbs the transplanted fat.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Fat Transfer and Injections?

Fat transfer injections are ideal for healthy adults who want to reverse the signs of aging without plastic surgery. It is recommended for younger adults to enhance facial contours and diminish slight facial imperfections, as well as for older patients who are noticing the visible signs of aging in the form of lines and wrinkles. Fat transfer injections are also an excellent option for patients who want to eliminate fat from problem areas in the body while correcting wrinkles, creases, lines, lack of volume, and minor imperfections in the face, such as acne scars.

How Should I Prepare For Fat Transfer and Injections?

There is minimal risk of any adverse reaction with fat transfer injections because the procedure uses fat from your own body to enhance facial volume. Little to no preparation is required for the procedure, but please inform Dr. Ekstrom if you’re on any medications, such as aspirin and other blood thinners, allergy medications, sleep aids, NSAIDS, or muscle relaxers, and if you have received any other injections in the past four months.  If you have any infection or irritation in the skin, treatment must be delayed until the condition passes.

How Much Do Fat Transfer and Injections Cost In Worcester?

The fat transfer procedure varies in price between patients, depending on the extent of treatment.  Since health insurance does not cover elective cosmetic procedures, your provider may not cover fat transfer injections. To keep the procedure accessible to all our patients, Salisbury Plastic Surgery provides easy financing and accepts various forms of payment.
