What Is IPL® Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation?
An IPL® photofacial is a simple, safe and effective procedure that uses intense pulsed light lasers to treat minor skin imperfections and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
How Does the IPL® Photofacial Work?
The IPL® photofacial is performed using a special wand to deliver pulsating light beams into a precise area of the face or to erase surface skin imperfections. An average IPL® treatment session takes about 45 minutes to complete, and most patients require at least two sessions.
How Can an IPL® Photofacial Improve My Appearance?
There are many conditions that can be improved, eliminated or reduced with the IPL® photofacial treatment. If you have any of the following conditions you may see a dramatic improvement after an IPL® photofacial:
- Broken capillaries
- Enlarged pores
- Redness or facial discoloration
- Sun damage and sunspots
When Will I see the Results of my IPL® Photofacial?
Some reduction of brown spots will be visible within one to two weeks, but other benefits may not become visible until all treatment sessions have been completed.
How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
The number of treatments depends on your individual concerns, and most patients typically require two to three IPL® photofacial treatments to achieve optimal results. Treatments are scheduled three to four weeks apart and each session typically lasts about 45minutes.
What Should I Expect after an IPL® Photofacial?
It is common for the skin in the targeted areas to be a little swollen and red following an IPL® photofacial. In rare cases, the skin may feel slightly blistered but this usually subsides in a few days. Your skin will be far more sensitive to sunlight after treatment, so it will be very important to wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when outdoors. We typically recommend that these treatments not be performed during the summer months to prevent possible sun damage after treatment.
How Long Will the Results of my IPL® Photofacial Last?
Results vary with each patient, however in most patients, the benefits of an IPL® photofacial treatment may last two years or longer.
Who Is a Good Candidate for an IPL® Photofacial?
IPL® photofacial treatment improves skin color and is an excellent therapy for patients who want their skin to look more rejuvenated but do not want to look like they had a cosmetic procedure. Although IPL® photofacial treatment is safe and effective for most healthy adults, it is not recommended for patients who have the following conditions:
- Are currently pregnant or lactating
- Individuals with dark skin
- Patients diagnosed with lupus
- Individuals who scar easily
