Plasmapen® in Worcester

The PlasmaPen® by Louise Walsh International is the world’s leading Plasma device. The PlasmaPen® is a revolutionary new concept in non-invasive skin lifting and tightening using plasma energy. This transmission of energy from the probe on the tip of the pen to the skin’s epidermal layer creates an immediate lifting and tightening of the skin.

PlasmaPen® offers an improved method of treating loose skin and wrinkles and is often used around the eyes, mouth, and neck. The FDA approved treatment stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and results in dramatic improvement in loose skin and wrinkles. Salisbury Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Deborah K. Ekstrom, provides effective treatment with PlasmaPen® for individuals in Shrewsbury, Worcester, and neighboring communities in Massachusetts, who want to improve the appearance of skin laxity.

How does plasmapen® work?

The PlasmaPen® by Louise Walsh International works by converting electrical energy into electrostatic energy which is transmitted to the probe on the tip of the pen. Held about 1mm from the skin, oxygen and nitrogen are mixed to produce an arc of plasma. This arc never touches the skin, but causes a micro injury to the skin’s epidermal layer which simultaneously heats and disrupts the deeper dermal layer. The effect is that heat is generated whitch stimulates a healing process that recruits fibroblast cells to the skin to produce collagen in abundance thereby tightening and rejuvenating the skin. This is more commonly known as Fibroblasting. Fibroblasts are the most common cells of connective tissue in the body that are responsible for collagen production.

How much does plasmapen® cost?

Plasmapen® treatments will vary, since they are customized to each patient, and therefore the cost will vary based on the area treated. The most common areas treated are the periocular area/upper and lower eyelids/crow’s feet, perioral area/upper lip and chin, and anterior neck. Other areas include forehead lines/forehead tightening, jowl and jawline tightening, and on stretchmarks.

Our office offers flexible financing options as well as accepting a variety of payment methods to make payments more convenient for each patient.

Am I a candidate plasmapen®?

Plasma pen can be used on any area of the body with loose or crepey skin or to improve fine lines and wrinkles. However, only skin types I-III can safely be treated since there is a risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation during the healing process.

Often only one treatment is needed however every patient will be different based on personal expectations, age, lifestyle, area treated and the condition of the skin.

How is plasmapen® performed?

Before the PlasmaPen® treatment, the area is numbed with a topical anesthetic. The treatment area is than thoroughly cleansed and a spray of the area is done. A second freeze numbing is applied to further numb the area and constrict blood vessels to minimize bleeding during treatment. The next phase of treatment involves using the PlasmaPen® device to create arcs/micro-channels on the skins surface. This micro-trauma stimulates the healing process for the creation of new, rejuvenated, tight and smooth tissue over the next 12 weeks.

What is recovery like after plasmapen®?

For the first 7 days following a PlasmaPen® treatment, it is normal for your skin to feel quite tight and dry, or you may experience very slight and occasional weeping that will settle over time. Small Plasma carbon crusts will form on the treated area, and these will be visible for up to a week or so before naturally flaking off. Swelling in the treated area along with darkening of carbon crusts lasts for up to 7 days. The area treated can remain pink for several weeks as new skin starts to form.

How long will my plasmapen® results last?

Most clients will see a tightening of skin right away. However, since the skin is healing from the inside out, you’ll see progressive results over the next few weeks with optimal results appearing after about twelve weeks. At 12 weeks post treatment, the skin starts to form new blood vessels and release growth factors for the creation of rejuvenated, tight and smooth skin. Clients continue to see transformative results for three or more years. However, like various cosmetic treatments, the effects won’t be permanent because it can’t stop ageing. The comprehensive healing response is characterised by the strengthening, plumping, inflation and lifting of the skin.
